Cunniff Design were appointed by Clegg Construction to deliver this CJCT designed student accommodation scheme. Comprising a stepped block extending out from the abandoned railway viaduct, the design announces its presence on the street frontage and re-creates the narrow, cobbled passageway to one side. Cunniff Design were able to rationalise the layout and simplify the construction detailing making for a very smooth delivery with the main contractor.
Challenges
Ensuring that the design stayed true to the planning approval achieved by the design architect was the main challenge, but technical considerations of how the building interfaces with the surrounding historic structures was also of key importance.
