Crown House, Sheffield

Completed in August 2017, Crown House is a prestigious student accommodation scheme in the heat of Sheffield city centre, boasting 355 studios and over 600sqm of amenity space.

A complex scheme - part refurbishment / part new build - the HLM designed scheme re-used the abandoned office building on West Bar and re-developed it as a new student centre. Two new wings to the rear create a large private courtyard giving the residents a much-needed external refuge from the busy city around.

Cunniff Design took the scheme from planning and delivered the project with RG Group for London and Scottish Student Housing (LSSH) who were keen to set a new benchmark for student accommodation in Sheffield.

Cunniff Design worked in collaboration with 74Architects - who designed the internal amenity spaces and Owen Waterhouse – a Sheffield based artist, commissioned for the public art piece on the side of the building – to make the scheme a unique development.
