Following on from the success at Crown House, Cunniff Design were appointed by LSSH to develop a design for the Symons House site in Leeds. Cunniff successfully delivered planning approval for a 22 storey tower, in a sensitive area in place of the 4 storey office building present on the site. The scheme delivers a range of room types and a roof terrace which commands incredible views over the city.

Challenges

Being in the zone of sensitivity around the Grade I Listed St John’s Church, we had to ensure that the building was of sufficient quality and architectural merit, to allow such a tall building to be permitted. Making the tower as slender as possible and pushing it up to 22 storeys enabled us to make a clear urban design statement which the planners commended.

Key Statistic

The building has 7 different room types; 1 bed Apartments, Clusters, ranging from 2, 4, and 5 bed, Studios, Club Studios and fully wheelchair accessible apartments.
